The Quinn Legacy
At Quinns, we believe that excellent legal service begins with legacy — not just history, but purpose, values, and the people who inspired them.
From Foundations to Future...
The story begins with my late father, John Quinn QC (9 May 1954 – 2 January 2022) — a deeply respected advocate, past Chair of Hospice Isle of Man, and, ultimately, Her Majesty’s Attorney General of the Isle of Man.
His work was rooted in the Isle of Man community and guided by a simple conviction:
that law is not only about rules, but about people — about trust, service, and doing what’s right even when it’s hard.
My legal journey began in 1996, working alongside him as a trainee advocate at Quinn Kneale. Those early years taught me that law done well means listening first, solving second, and always keeping your word.
By 1998, I had qualified and soon became a partner in the firm. Later, I established James Quinn & Co, before reuniting with my father in 2009 to found Quinn Legal — a new chapter built on the same enduring principles.
When he was appointed Attorney General in 2013, the Island’s legal community recognised the integrity, leadership, and humility he brought to the role.
His passing in January 2022 was deeply felt across the island — personally for our family, and professionally for everyone whose lives he touched.
John Quinn was more than a father and colleague; he was my mentor and my inspiration. His passion for justice and his relentless pursuit of excellence continue to guide everything we do.
The values he instilled in me — integrity, dedication, and compassion — are the cornerstones of what we now call The Quinns Way.
Why Our Legacy Matters
At Quinns, we don’t treat our history as nostalgia. We honour it but continuing the promise my father made – that legal services on the Isle of Man should be clear, caring and personal. His values of Integrity, clarity and care live on in every client transaction, every team decision and every day we work.
This legacy means
- Integrity – We do what’s right, not what’s easy – just as Dad did when charing Hospice Isle of Man or advising government departments
- Clarity – We simplify complexity and communicate plainly – because legal solutions only work when they’re understood
- Care – We treat clients like people, not cases – remembering that behind every legal issue lies a life, a family, a hope, or a worry.
My Personal Promise
As founder of Quinns, my aim is two-fold
Firstly to make my children, Jessica, Harrison, Joseph and Ollie proud. I want them to see that their Dad didn’t just build a business, but carried forward a legacy of integrity and care. Secondly, to reimagine what a law firm can be on the Isle of Man – not transactional or reactive – but human-centered, forward-thinking, and built on genuine service. In doing this, we carry on Dad’s work without living in the past. We ask ‘How can legal services be better – for families, for businesses and for the Isle of Man itself?’ That question continues to guide The Quinns Way.
Where We Go From Here
Quinns is not just about where we’ve been – it’s about where we are going. We look ahead with ambitions that reflect our legacy.
- To be the law firm people think of first – because we care, because we deliver clarity and because we build trust.
- To embed innovation in how we serve – with fixed-fee models, transparent communication and technology that supports relationships rather than replaces them
- To nurture a culture where values are lived daily – where our team feels seen, supported and proud to belong
Because legacy isn’t something we look back on – it’s something we live, every single day.
Let’s start your journey with clarity, care, and confidence. Whether you’re buying a home, planning your future, or resolving a dispute, you’ll always know where you stand — in cost, in process, and in outcome.
